Obituary

Rufus Pumroy (Roy) Greene, 84, born and raised in Mulberry, accomplished his journey of life on July 22, 2024. He was in his home under the assistance of Amorem Support.

He was born in Caldwell County on April 19, 1940 to the late James Wesley and Toy Harmon Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Lois Prestwood Greene; his brothers, Arlo, Paul, Joe, Tommy, and Willard Greene; and sisters, Nina Bell Chandler, Mary Ann Clark, and Thelma Chandler.

Being born and raised in the country, Roy started his life farming, later sawmilling and land surveying. He drew plenty of property maps and construction plans. Later in life, Roy retired from the City of Lenoir Engineering Department.

Happiness for Roy was always found in the garden where he annually grew vegetables which he shared with his neighbors. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed family traditions such as, making molasses in the fall and butchering during the winter months. Every Saturday evening he spent watching the Gaither Gospel Hour. Bluegrass Gospel was something he always enjoyed. Roy was a member of Berea Advent Christian Church in Collettsville.

Roy is survived by his children, Russell Greene (Kimberly) of Taylorsville; James Greene (Kimberly Jarvis), Sandra Drum (Gregory), and Laura Kelly (Joseph) of Lenoir; two brothers, James Greene and Buster Greene; sisters, Jane Braswell, Rosa Lee Rash, Patsy Richardson and Kaye Connor; grandchildren, Brittany Daniels (Bradley) of Taylorsville, Jarvis Greene (Alexis) of South Carolina, Tyler Greene (Shannon), Cade Kelly and Ava Kelly of Lenoir; great-grandchildren, Noah Daniels, Naomi Daniels, Jaxson Greene, Arlo Greene, Charles Greene and Kayleigh Greene.
