Mrs. Stella McNeil Payne Land, age 95, of Lenoir passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Shaire Center in Lenoir.

Born September 6, 1928 in Wilkes County, Stella was a daughter of the late Coy and Ressie Fletcher McNeil.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitnel.  She had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and helped with senior citizen projects.  The thing she enjoyed most was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Paul Lemuel Payne and Harold Land; a daughter, Diane Lynn Payne; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Setzer (husband Ronnie); a brother, Otis McNeil (wife Kate); a sister, Nell Barnette (husband Jessie); two grandchildren, Brandi Cox and Jordan Setzer (wife Michelle); three great grandchildren, Caleb Cox, Colton Cox and Crew Setzer; a special friend, James Eller; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside celebration of Stella's life will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Whitnel Cemetery with Reverend Steve Hedgecock officiating.
