A Few Words About Dad

If you knew my dad, Steve, you knew kindness. You knew a man who never met a stranger, who could talk to anyone — and usually did — even if you had to lean in close because he was so excited to share that his words came out faster than his mouth could keep up.

You knew his routines — same breakfast, same lunch, same gas station stop every morning to swap stories with friends before heading to the job he loved as a special education teacher. For him, teaching wasn't just work; it was a service of love.

You knew his quirks — how he sang Skidamarink to his kids, told endless "I've got your nose" jokes, and somehow broke the lawnmower every single time he used it. You knew he'd probably fall asleep during a family gathering, but he'd do it smiling, surrounded by the people he loved most.

Steve was the guy who noticed the good — who told you he was proud of you, who pointed out how hard you'd worked, who said, "You look nice today" and meant it. And when words weren't enough, he gave bear hugs so big and warm you felt them in your bones.

That was Steve. A man who showed up, who laughed easily, who loved deeply, and who left this world better just by being in it.

Steve is survived by his wife, Margaret Peet Robbins; his son, Zebulon Robbins, and fiancée Leah Montes; his daughter, Kaitlin Robbins Tipton, and husband Jason Tipton; grandchildren Julian Kyles; Riley Tipton, Quinn Tipton, and Landon Tipton; and his sisters, Lynn Doyle and Suzanne Spruill. He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Robbins; his mother, Imogene C. Robbins; his brother, George W. Robbins Jr.; and his sister, Katherine R.Burns. Though his chair may be empty, home will always be full of his love.
