Susan Bumgarner Smith, age 79, of Caldwell County, North Carolina, was surrounded by her loved ones as she went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Susan was born on November 30, 1946 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to the late Percy and Lena Bumgarner.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Jim Bumgarner.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Larry Smith; sons, Scotty Smith and Tim Smith (Tara); brother, John Bumgarner; sisters, Evelyn Conley and Brenda Ford (Dean); grandchildren, Heather Smith, Jacob Smith, and Delanie Smith; great-grandchildren, Natahlia Warren and Bella Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Susan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren. Susan was a lifelong member of Buffalo Cove Baptist Church. She was very active in the church, and served as the church treasurer for many years. She was influential in the founding and building of the Buffalo Cove Baptist Church Park as well. Susan was an avid sports fan and lifelong Carolina Tar Heels fan. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Before Susan departed this life to be with her Savior, it was her wish that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Buffalo Cove Baptist Church for the Buffalo Cove Baptist Church Park Fund.

Per Susan's wishes, no services will be held.
