Obituary

Vergie Edwards Teague was born on November 7, 1940, in Yancey County, North Carolina, Vergie was the daughter of Mazie Edwards and Banister Tipton. She was also blessed with thirteen siblings: Fred, Charles, Floyd, Estel, Cecil, Lloyd, Emmaline, Mildred, Audrey, Mary, Carrie, Nell, and Alma. Welcomed into the arms of the Lord on August 1, 2026.

On July 1, 1961, she married the love of her life, Stacey Teague, they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they built a life filled with faith, love, hard work, and devotion to their family. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, and together they raised three children: Kenneth Teague (Trina), Jonathan Teague (Tammy Bradshaw), and Amy Wheelock (Derek).

Vergie was a proud and loving grandmother to Catherine Dunn (James), Justin Teague (Jessica), and Ryan Bentley. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Andrew Dunn, Thomas “Tad” Dunn, Evan Teague, and Lilly Teague, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

A gifted self-taught artist, Vergie had a remarkable talent for painting. She and Stacy shared a special partnership in their craft. Stacy lovingly handcrafted wooden tables, benches, paper towel holders, napkin holders, paper plate holders, and many other pieces, while Vergie transformed each one into a work of art with her beautiful hand-painted designs. Their creations found homes not only across the United States but around the world, leaving a lasting reminder of their creativity and craftsmanship.

Above all else, Vergie loved her family, her Lord, and her country. Her faith guided her life, her love strengthened those around her, and her gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, unwavering devotion, and cherished memories that will continue to live on through her family and all whose lives she enriched.

Though she made her home in Caldwell County for many years, the mountains of Yancey County were always calling her back. No matter where life took her, Yancey County forever held a special place in her heart and was the place she always considered home.

The family will hold a private burial. Family will receive friends and family Wednesday August 5th, 2026 at Kings Creek Ruritan, 3475 Wilkesboro Blvd, Lenoir NC 28645 5-8pm.

Vergie’s family finds comfort in knowing that while she will be deeply missed, she has been welcomed into her eternal home. Her love, faith, and artistic legacy will forever
