Vernon Greene Story, age 81, of Hudson passed away Monday, June 24, 2024 at Caldwell UNC Health Care after a long battle from the effects of Agent Orange. He was born March 10, 1943 in Caldwell County to the late Charlie N. Story and Jessie Vera Saunders Story. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four brothers, Infant Neil Story, Houston Story, Steve Story, and Troy Story; and two sisters, Margie Garvin and Sally "Barbara" Coffey.

Mr. Story was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. During his service time Vernon received many ribbons and awards for his actions. He was a faithful member of Lake View Baptist Church and a member of the DAV Chapter 6 Honor Guard.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Doris Elaine Wallace Story, of the home; one son, Kris Story of Hudson; one daughter, Lana Lowman and husband Doug of Granite Falls; one brother, Wayne Story and wife Kitty of Granite Falls; one sister, Opal Price of Lenoir; four beloved grandchildren, Krista Bowman and husband Jason of Lenoir, Kendra Kitler and husband Michael "Kit" of Millers Creek, NC, Josh Lowman of Texas, and Lakyn Story of Lenoir; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Sheila Church of Granite Falls.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Story will be held at a later date.
