Victoria "Vickie"
Correll Swanson
Nov 24, 1951 — Feb 16, 2025
Victoria "Vickie" Correll Swanson walked into the waiting arms of
Jesus on Sunday, February 16, 2025, after a lingering illness. A Lenoir, NC, native, Vickie was born November 24, 1951, to Duward Henry Correll and Bernice Sipes Correll.
A graduate of Hibriten High School, Vickie attended Wingate College for two years then transferred to Appalachian State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in health science and physical education. Following college, she taught at Gamewell School before pursuing other career areas including home decorating.
Vickie was known for being feisty and charging at life with gusto. She married Brian Swanson who played the mandolin and other instruments. Together they were known throughout the area for hosting and attending music jams, festivals and contra dances. On any given Saturday night at their millhouse on the river, the rushing water provided counterpoint to the tunes on their deck.
A smart, confident businesswoman, Vickie managed several companies in North Carolina and Florida. She was particularly adept at employee relations because she cared about people. She had a generous spirit and a soft spot in her heart for underdogs.
Vickie drew strength from reading the Bible and devotionals. She particularly liked the Jesus Calling series. She was a member of First United Methodist Church-Lenoir and the June Greene Sunday School class.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Brian Keith Swanson, her sister, Cynthia Correll Roberts; her beloved nephew, Sean Paul Kristian Roberts, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Vickie loved her family "more than anything in the whole wide world," including her four-legged "children," Cody Lee and Bandit.
Those left to cherish her memory include her niece, Lacy Roberts Alford; her special friend, Kenneth Triplett; her cousin who was like a sister, Sheila Triplett-Brady; her brother-in-law, Paul Roberts, many cousins; and countless friends.
Special thanks to her "angel" caregiver, Gail Sparks, and to cousins Gary Correll, Sherry McMillan, Brett Bollinger, Leah Geates, Jon Triplett, and Jennifer Ellis. The family appreciates the prayers and acts of kindness by many other family and friends.
Those who wish to remember Vickie with a donation can contribute to the ministries of First United Methodist Church, 309 Church Street NW, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Pay It Forward Food Pantry, 2058 Harper Avenue, Lenoir, NC 28645.
Vickie will join her husband Brian and rest next to her parents at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
