Walter Harris Howell passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.
He was born to the late Marshall and Cleo Osborne Howell on April 26, 1935.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one infant brother, Paul Edward Howell; sisters, Margaret H. Blickley, Pauline Edmiston, Faye H. Storie, Pansy H. Scruggs, and Phyllis H. Woods.
Walter worked in the furniture industry for many years. He retired from Sherrill Furniture as a sewing machine technician. After his retirement he enjoyed gardening, traveling, working in the yard, and most of all helping others. He will be remembered for his zest for life, integrity, and strength of character which has been a great inspiration for those who knew him. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, and uncle. He will be greatly missed.
Walter had a strong and unwavering faith in God and loved his church. He was a member of Baton United Methodist Church where he faithfully worshipped and served on the administrative board and the United Methodist Men.
Walter's survivors include his loving wife, Sonja Severt Edmondson Howell; one son, Terry H. Howell of Charlotte, NC and the mother of his son, Evelyn Setzer Howell Kirby of Lenoir; sister, Brenda H. Yates (Milton) of North Wilkesboro, NC; and two brothers, Herbert Howell (Kaye) of Lenoir and Jerry Howell (Beth) of Charlotte. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and four special boys that called him Paw- Caden and Caleb Crow, Alex Cady and Oscar Schmidt.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 11am at Baton United Methodist Church with Rev. Rich Irwin officiating.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church from 10am-11am.
Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Baton United Methodist Church, 1034 Dry Ponds Rd., Granite Falls, NC 28630.
