Walter Worth Younce, Sr. of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away in his residence on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Walter was born on August 1, 1925 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Walter Lynn Younce and Fannie Wilcox Younce.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Watson; brothers, Jim Younce, Howard Younce, Clay Younce, and Jay Younce; sisters, Myrtle Houck and Louise Cook, son-in-law, Raby "Lynn" Barnett; daughter-in-law, Shirl Younce; and grandchild, Shannon Gregg.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Allen Younce and Walter "Sonny" Younce Jr. (Yvette); daughter, Janet Barnett; sisters, Helen Craig, Glenda Winkler, and Shirley Walker; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter was a veteran of World War II where he earned a Bronze Star. He was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church.

A memorial service to honor the life of Walter Younce Sr. will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 2:00pm at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Sonny Younce and Reverend Allen Younce officiating.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home.

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations may be made to Amorem Hospice.
