Wayne Murrell Smith, age 79, of Lenoir passed away Friday, November 14, 2025 at his residence. He was born June 15, 1946 in Burke County to the late Robert Rufus Smith and Neta Iona Killian Smith. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by eleven siblings; and one daughter, Tara Gail Smith.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara "Bobbie" Greene Smith; one son, Shannon Wayne Smith (Angela); one son, Bradley Gene Scott (Lori); two daughters, Melinda Denise Smith and Telena Smith Johnson (Rodney); one sister, Mae Bell Smith Hartley; nine beloved grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Friday, November 21, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Ford officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
