William David Martin, age 74, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

William was born on July 13, 1951 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to the late Fred Martin and Shirley Gibbs.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Beverly Martin; daughters, Holly Martin and Becky Martin and fiancé Russell McClellan; step-sons, Barry Moore and wife Barbara and Doug Moore Jr.; sister, Donna Linkous and husband David; grandchildren, Tyler Ennis and wife Chasity, Melissa Moore, and Andrew Ennis and wife Elisa; great-grandchildren, Grayson Ennis, Clark Ennis, and Vanellope Moore; as well as numerous friends and family.

William proudly served his country in Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corps, where he was wounded on Valentine's Day in 1971. William earned a Purple Heart. He was a founding member of the DAV chapter 6, and performed military honors at funeral services with the DAV until his health prevented it. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Morganton, NC, the VFW Post, and the American Legion in Hudson. William had a big heart. He was generous and would give to anyone who was in need. He loved his family and his fur babies, Blackie, Tinkerbell, Chloe Belle, and Baby. In his spare time, William loved golfing. He loved to play it and to watch it. He also loved watching ballgames. William was also an avid fan of old western movies. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service to honor the life of William Martin will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 1:00PM at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom McDonald officiating.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel from 12:00PM until 1:00PM.

Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Tyler Ennis, Andrew Ennis, Barry Moore, David Linkous, Michael Byers, and Bruce Hartsoe.
