Obituary

William "Bill" Monroe Lovelace Jr. , age 92, ascended to his Heavenly home on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Bill was born on September 29, 1933 and was the son of William Monroe Lovelace and Jennie Carpenter Lovelace.

Bill was deeply dedicated to his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, William "Monte" Lovelace III (Christiana); daughters, Sandra "Sandy" Reese (John) and Gina Stiehm (Walter); 10 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

Bill attended Mooresboro School, Mars Hill College, and received a BS in Pharmacy degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.

As a Pharmacist, Bill founded and operated Hudson Drug Company for over 40 years. He also served several terms on Hudson Town Board, two of which he served as mayor pro-temp. He also served on the Board of Trustees Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, Bank of Granite Advisory Board, and the Caldwell Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. He was recognized by the University of North Carolina for holding the longest active pharmacist license for over 60 years.

Bill was an active member of Deerfield United Methodist Church in Boone, NC. He was dedicated to his church and his community, giving back to both as much as possible. Bill also enjoyed collecting, restoring, and showing antique cars. He was an avid Tar Heels fan and supported Appalachian State as well.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Kingston Residence of Hickory for the excellent care provided to Bill. He made many friends and won many Bingo games during his time there.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Deerfield United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association.

A funeral service to honor the life of William "Bill" Lovelace Jr. will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 1:00pm at Deerfield United Methodist Church in Boone, NC with Pastor Wes Austin officiating.

The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church from 12:00pm until 1:00pm.

Entombment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir, NC.

The family will receive visitors and friends at Hudson United Methodist's Fellowship Hall for light refreshments at 4:00pm.
