William Douglas Spicer, age 82 of Lenoir, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025 at Shaire Center, with his family by his side. He was born June 28, 1942 in Caldwell County, NC to the late William Howard Spicer and Lillian Finney Spicer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Glenda Calloway.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of over 63 years, Clydean Spicer; two daughters, Suzanne Spicer LaSpaluto (Denis) and Lorie Spicer Farr (Kelly); grandchildren, Ben (Meredith) and Grey LaSpaluto, and Lindsey (Jake), Andrew and Lauren Farr. He is survived by two siblings, Anna Dean Smith and Barry Spicer (Diane). He also leaves loving in-laws, Doris Laxton and Joe Duncan (Elaine), as well as many nephews, nieces and special friends.
A proud military veteran, Doug was a man of unwavering loyalty to God, his family, his country and his friends. He had a gift for making those around him laugh, always ready with a joke or witty remark that brightened any room. Doug enjoyed working in his yard, restoring classic vehicles and attending car shows, but especially spending time with family and friends. Prior to retirement he worked for 40 years with Piedmont Natural Gas Company.
Funeral services will be held Sunday April 13, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Leo Fair officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
A special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Shaire Center. We are deeply grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to Doug during his extended stay.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Methodist Church, 901 Seehorn St NE, Lenoir, NC 28645 or Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
