Ruby Watson Norman, age 89, of Roby Martin Road, Lenoir, was taken away with angels when sunlight filled her darkened room on an overcast, cloudy day. She reached up to heaven to be with her Lord on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the residence, surrounded by her family. She was born October 22, 1923 in Caldwell County to the late Benjamin Harrison Watson and Bertha Coralee St. John Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl M. Laws and second husband, Howard R. Norman; six brothers, Cloyd, Donald, Junior "BH", Daniel, David and Harold Dean; and two sisters, Pansy Watson Walker and Hazel Watson Arnette. Mrs. Norman was the last Charter member of Calvary Baptist Church, which was established by her father and other prominent residents of Lenoir. She was the very first pianist at Calvary Church and sung in the choir until only a few years ago. Survivors include four sons, Randy Laws and wife Jayne, Dennis Norman and wife Elaine, Gene Norman and wife Betty and Dean Norman and fiancée Leann, all of Lenoir; sister, Margaret Lind and husband Ronnie of Wilmington, Delaware; five grandchildren; Carrie Herman, Jenny Younce, Matthew Norman, Rebekah White and Katie Sims; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Alan Carr, Rev. Ronnie Watson and speaker Avery Herman. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
